Every year the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) San Diego Professional Chapter awards monetary scholarships to student members of the San Diego area SHPE student chapters. Each year the number and amount of our individual scholarships varies (ranging from $500 to $2500), depending on our corporate and member support.

Corporate Scholarships
The number of recipients for the corporate scholarships depends on the amount of corporate sponsorship. The recipients of these scholarships are selected via a selection committee.
Friends of SHPE (Private Donors) Scholarship Award
The number of recipients for the Friends of SHPE (Private Donors) scholarships depends on the amount of donations received. The recipients of these scholarships are selected by the SHPE Executive Board.
Jesse Macias Past President’s Scholarship Award
This scholarship is awarded to a student(s) demonstrating a commitment to the cause of SHPE and to their own education. This scholarship is funded and selected by the SHPE San Diego Brown Eagles (Formed by the Past Professional Chapter Presidents).
2024 Scholarship Awards
Eligibility
- Graduating San Diego high school seniors beginning a STEM undergraduate career at a
community college or 4-year university. - Undergraduate students pursuing a degree in STEM at any stage of their undergraduate career.
Students must be enrolled full-time at a community college or 4-year university in San Diego
County. - Graduate students pursuing a master’s or doctoral STEM degree program at an accredited
university in San Diego County. - Will be attending a San Diego County Community College or University full time in the coming
Fall 2024 semester. - Must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA
- Shall be a registered paid SHPE member (Professional, Student, High School), verified with SHPE
National Office, for at least one full semester/quarter and SHPEConnect Profile page submitted.
2024 Scholarship Application Details
- The 2024 scholarship application process will be completely online.
- Download and complete this form (Google Doc)
- The application period will be open from 02/12/2024 and closes promptly on 04/07/2024 at
11:59pm. - We will announce scholarship recipients at the SHPE San Diego Annual Awards Banquet on June
7th; recipients must be present at the banquet to receive their scholarship award. - SHPE San Diego will distribute scholarship checks in September/October after Receipt of
required materials are satisfied by the recipient. - The documents required for funds disbursement are due by 09/30/2024.

- 2024 unofficial transcript
- Latest resume (not to exceed one page)
- Photo (headshot)
- College or university admission letter. (If applicable)
- Can be submitted past submission deadline, but needed before SHPE San Diego can
disburse award amount. Please provide an explanation beforehand, such as being
waitlisted at a university or pending admission, etc.

- Create a zip file with all your applicable documents that are listed above.
