Mid-Year Report FY 2019-2020
We are very happy to present the SHPE San Diego Mid-Year Report. Along with this report we continue to share our success stories through social media, quarterly newsletters and our website.
Since SHPE San Diego’s establishment in 1982, the chapter has grown to be one of Region 2’s strongest professional chapters and has reached many milestones including the establishment of our 501 (c) (3) non-profit status in 1994, earning National Large Chapter of the Year in 2019, the commitment of our 30 Lifetime members, and providing over $20,000 in scholarships and Outreach support this past fiscal year.
Please read on to learn about the good we've accomplished in the first half of our 2019-2020 fiscal year. This has only been possible with the support of our Membership, Sponsors and Employee Resource Group partners!
We've inspired over 600 students & parents to pursue STEM fields!
Our recent Noche de Ciencias events at Hilltop and Castle Park High Schools inspired high school students to pursue a STEM degree while also educating over parents on the benefits of a STEM career and the affordability of sending their children to college!
Sabado Cientifico is SHPE San Diego’s own initiative to expose K-12 students to STEM fields and Latino role models that will inspire them! In 2019, we held an Arduino Academy, where students learned basic electronics, circuit design and C programming!

Collegiate Chapters
Collaborating with 5 San Diego collegiate chapters, SHPE San Diego has been able to provide Professional Development and Mentorship opportunities to over 370 attendees throughout 34 events in the 2018-2019 School Year. This past September SHPE San Diego also disbursed $18,000 in Scholarships to 20 aspiring STEM students.

SHPE Jr. Chapters
The SHPE Jr. Chapter program is a SHPE National initiative run by SHPE Foundation to support K-12 students in overcoming persistent educational barriers and to encourage those students to pursue STEM studies and careers. SHPE San Diego, with the support of sponsoring companies, is steadily growing the number of SHPE Jr. Chapters in San Diego. We are currently in the process of establishing a new Jr. chapter at San Diego High School!

We Need Your Help to Execute the Rest of Our Programs for the Year!
As SHPE San Diego continues to grow, our financial need also grows. Our scholarship program is coming up and with more student chapters we are aiming to raise over $25,000 to award in scholarships! We also have several STEM Outreach events planned as well as a couple major Professional Development events!
It's through the generous donations from Corporations and Members like you that we are able to meet these growing needs. Please consider helping us reach our goal of raising $30,000 for our Scholarship, Outreach, and Professional Development programs!
