SHPE San Diego Scholarship Program
Scholarship History

Since the first scholarship in the amount of $100 was awarded to Ms. Paz Gomez in 1982, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers - San Diego Professional Chapter has continuously awarded scholarships to university-level and deserving students pursuing a science or engineering discipline. Certainly, the $100 award presented to Ms. Gomez started it all - and has been a focus, excitement and driving force for San Diego SHPErs to "promote the development of Hispanics in engineering and other technical professions to achieve education excellence, economic opportunity and social equity."

Today the scholarship program is going stronger than ever!
Last year at the 2008 SHPE San Diego banquet, the professional chapter gave away over $26,000 dollars in scholarships! Thanks to great coroporate support, SHPE San Diego was able to give away 28 awards to deserving SHPE students.

Information about the 2009 scholarships will be availible next spring.

Presidents Scholarship
A New Tradition

In 2002 this scholarship was initiated and another tradition for the San Diego Professional Chapter was born. The President Scholarship is SHPE San Diego's high award of distinction. Below is the 2008 winner, Luke Burgan of SDSU, seen with keynote speaker NASA Astronaut James Newman.
