Reality Changers is an educational non-profit organization that serves inner-city youth to help them become first generation college students. They are holding their 2nd Annual Job Shadow Week from 3/30 (Monday) to 4/3 (Friday) and 4/6 (Monday) to 4/10 (Friday)and they are inviting SHPE San Diego to help connect their students’ dreams to reality!

Here is a message from Reality Changers regarding their Job Shadow Week:

Job Shadow Day is a half-day event designed to expose high school students to the world of work. Students “shadow” professionals during a normal workday to gain a first-hand look at the skills, knowledge, and education required to succeed in a career. This event offers students a chance to explore careers of interest — as well as ones with which they are not familiar.

When a company participates in Job Shadow Day, it is demonstrating a commitment to supporting and improving the community. Individual hosts benefit from the satisfaction that comes with mentoring a young person and introducing him or her to a new career.

On the day of the event, students visit the work site and shadow professionals for 3 to 4 hours, observing and assisting them with their work.

  • Reality Changers staff work directly with students to prepare them for the job-shadow experience through a career-readiness orientation.
  • When you sign up, we will e-mail you a brief “host’s guide” that includes suggested activities to help structure the event.
  • You simply provide a brief job description to help us match with student career interests.

If you are interested in volunteering as a host, please sign up here and we will contact you with more information to help you prepare for the event.
