Graduate School and Time Management

Are you considering pursuing a graduate degree? SHPE San Diego is committed to promoting higher education in the Hispanic community by providing resources and information to our members. The following article from a San Diego university, Alliant University, provides information about pursuing a graduate degree and tips on time management.

Graduate School and Time Management | Escuela de Posgrado y Gestión del Tiempo

Making the decision of going back to school can be extremely difficult, especially when, as a student, you must also balance work and family life with the commitment you have made to further your education. You may also wonder when is the best time to go back to school and how you will further your career once you finish your degree.

We, at Alliant School of Management, understand all of these concerns and are more than happy to help you make the right decision as to when, and how you should approach your professional development.

Balancing work, family and school requires time management skills and it won’t be easy, however, we have compiled a list of things you can do to effectively balance all aspects of your life while succeeding as a student.

This is the most important tip we can give you. Family and friends can provide you with support when life gets a little too busy. If you have a spouse, make sure you make the decision together because they will be best at helping you succeed.

Dedicate a daily time in which you will work on your school work. Explain to your family and work what interruptions are acceptable and if you can, try to study outside of your home, or make sure the rest of the family is working on their homework at the same time you are. This will minimize interruptions.

Make sure you plan enough time to do your daily activities as well as your school work. Minimize stress by assigning a time of the day to complete chores.

Talk to your boss about going back to school, and how your company can help you succeed. Make sure you resolve any possible scheduling conflicts before they occur. Keep your work life separate from your family life and school life.

Stay in the moment. Your time is going to be on high demand. Make sure you are present wherever it is that you are.

Alliant has a ton of resources to help you be successful, use them. Use your support system when you need them. Friends and family are always willing to help their loved ones succeed.

We hope that you make the decision to further your career. If you have any questions or concerns, we are happy to help. Please feel free to contact James Ellis at [email protected] or via phone at 858-635-4694.

Dedica tiempos específicos a tus estudios.
